Artemis has committed his entire fortune to a project he believes will save the planet and its inhabitants, both human and fairy. Can it be true? Has goodness taken hold of the world’s greatest teenage criminal mastermind?

Captain Holly Short is unconvinced, and discovers that Artemis is suffering from Atlantis Complex, a psychosis common among guilt-ridden fairies - not humans - and most likely triggered by Artemis’s dabbling with fairy magic. Symptoms include obsessive-compulsive behavior, paranoia, multiple personality disorder and, in extreme cases, embarrassing professions of love to a certain feisty LEPrecon fairy.

Unfortunately, Atlantis Complex has struck at the worst possible time. A deadly foe from Holly’s past is intent on destroying the actual city of Atlantis. Can Artemis escape the confines of his mind – and the grips of a giant squid – in time to save the underwater metropolis and its fairy inhabitants?

New York Times best-selling author Eoin Colfer delivers a knockout, fast-paced, and hilarious adventure in Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex, the seventh book in the blockbuster series.

SABOTAGED: The Missing, Book 3
by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
ISBN: 9781416954248
Ages 8-12
384 pages

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thirteen-year-old Jonah Skidmore feels like an average kid, complete with an intelligent but slightly annoying younger sister named Katherine, a mom and dad who constantly reassure their children that they are special and well loved, and a quiet home in the suburbs of Ohio. The fact that Jonah is adopted has never been a big deal for him, maybe because his parents have always been so open and reassuring about it. To Jonah, life feels normal. But then he receives a letter with six simple words, "YOU ARE ONE OF THE MISSING," and his life flips upside down and way out of control.

After some investigating, Jonah and Katherine discover an amazing secret: Jonah is part of a group of kids who have been stolen out of time. J.B., a time officer, has rounded up the 36 children and is determined to set history straight by sending them back to "when" they belong. The siblings agree to help the others realign time, signing up for the most incredible adventures of their lives.

Jonah and Katherine are about ready to set off for their second mission through time. But unlike the first one, when they jumped in unexpectedly and ended up in 1483 completely unprepared, this time they get a debriefing first. This mission involves Andrea, who is really Virginia Dare, the first European born in the New World. She, like the other kidnapped children, was stolen out of time, and home for her is the Lost Colony of Roanoke in the late 16th century. History doesn't know much about her, but Jonah and Katherine --- and Andrea herself --- are about to learn a lot more.

Unfortunately, something goes terribly wrong. A secret conspirator, who calls himself Second Chance, gets involved. As the kids zip back through time, the Elucidator, an important tool for time travelers, is lost. They do arrive in the abandoned Roanoke Colony, but they don't know when, and they have no way to communicate with J.B. They are completely on their own.

Jonah, Katherine and Andrea do find two of the ghostly tracers on the island, reminders of the way time is supposed to have gone, so they follow them hoping to learn something. What they find is a shipwrecked sailor drowning in the sea. Jonah and Andrea dive in to help, rescuing someone whom they later find out to be Andrea's grandfather. But they still can't find Andrea's tracer, they don't know what exactly they need to fix, and they can't communicate with J.B. However, Second Chance finds ways to communicate with them, and our heroes learn that he doesn't just want to fix time --- he wants to change time. And these changes will send out ripples through time that could cause unimaginable damage to the history of the entire world.

Margaret Peterson Haddix continues to amaze and entertain with her stories of mind-boggling adventure. She approaches the dilemmas of time travel with courage and vivid imagination, taking pieces of history and weaving them into compelling mysteries. The storyline moves fast with plenty of action and ambiguity to tempt one's curiosity, with a bit of romance and humor to lighten the load. Jonah and Katherine are likable and believable, and Haddix writes with an open and welcoming style that invites readers to come along with them on their emotional journeys. She ends the book with a major cliffhanger, leaving her fans to drool for the next installment of The Missing.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along.

With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

±1±: Best Buy I'd heard so much about Hush, Hush, by the time I actually read it, I had no idea what to expect. For every shining recommendation I heard from fellow paranormal YA lit fans, I'd find another reader who panned the book mercilessly.

The book is built on one of the new, hot concepts in paranormal fiction: angels. (Because vampires and weres are so 2007, after all.) Of course, the focus of this novel aren't serene, harp-toting cherubs. Author Becca Fitzpatrick introduces half-human, half-angel Nephilim, fallen angels, andgels of death, avenging angels and other powerful, etherial beings. The fresh premise engaged my attention, and it was a treat to be exposed to a new set of mythology in addition to a thrilling storyline.

Sweet, studious Nora is a true good-girl. Her sheltered life is marred by the death of her father one year ago. Otherwise, her biggest annoyance is her new biology partner, Patch, a dangerously handsome transfer student whose bad attitude and flirtatious distraction threaten Nora's precious GPA -- and chance to get into an Ivy League college.

Nora has a typical good-girl reaction to an attractive bad boy -- she's simultanously drawn to him, and repelled by him. Their charged chemistry and his attention makes her uneasy, but it thrills her, too. Still, she can't shake the feeling that Patch is more than just a brooding guy in black -- he's hiding something. And he might actually be out to hurt her. Because Nora is being watched. And Patch seems to show up everywhere she does.

A lot of the reviews I read criticized Hush, Hush for romanticizing bad boys and encouraging young girls to make bad romantic decisions. Me, personally? I really enjoyed Hush, Hush. Author Becca Fitzpatrick is brave enough to write a male love interest that's actually a dynamic, conflicted character -- not a stereotypical hero or tortured good guy. It's interesting, and unexpected.

I felt Hush, Hush did have some weaknesses, however. The adult-child relationship in the book was not believable and was underdeveloped. Some of the characters are undeniably unlikeable, in fact. But the main relationship has a lot of good tension and potential, and I look forward to reading more about Nora and Patch and their challenges in Crescendo.

Oh yes, and that brings me to a side note about the book's title. I can't seem to find the connection between the title and the storyline or theme. But isn't the cover art amazing? on Sale!

It's been seven months since all the adults disappeared. Gone.

It happens in one night. A girl who died now walks among the living; Zil and the Human Crew set fire to Perdido Beach; and amid the flames and smoke, Sam sees the figure of the boy he fears the most: Drake. But Drake is dead. Sam and Caine defeated him along with the Darkness—or so they thought.

As Perdido Beach burns, battles rage: Astrid against the Town Council; the Human Crew versus the mutants; and Sam against Drake, who is back from the dead and ready to finish where he and Sam left off. And all the while deadly rumors are raging like the fire itself, spread by the prophetess Orsay and her companion, Nerezza. They say that death is a way to escape the FAYZ. Conditions are worse than ever and kids are desperate to get out. But are they desperate enough to believe that death will set them free?

±1±: Best Buy It has been seven months since all the adults disappeared and all the children under 15 are still struggling with life in the FAYZ. Hunger is an ever present problem, kids are getting drunk and smoking and carrying weapons. Some are trying to set authority with a Town Council; others aren't above violence and destruction to get their way. As Sam and Astrid fight (sometimes with each other) to do the right thing they are also dealing with the so-called prophetess who is saying death is the way to escape the FAYZ. On top of that Sam and others think they see Drake the dreaded Whip Hand, but he's dead - isn't he?

"Lies" is the exciting third book in Michael Grant's thrilling "Gone" series for young adults (the first two books are Gone and Hunger: A Gone Novel). Grant has managed to keep the tension throughout the series and you feel that the kids (some of whom are oh so young) as many struggle to do the right thing - not all agree on what the right thing is. While it is easy to feel sorry for Sam as he tries to lead those who don't necessarily want a leader and Astrid who is beginning to realize she is not always right, it is Mary who I felt the most sorry for as she has to decide whether or not to "poof" when she turns 15. This is not an easy decision for Mary - she is tired of taking care of the "littles" yet wonders who'll take care of them if she does disappear. Grant fills the book with many other memorable characters (for better or worse) including Orsay and Nerezza, Lana, Zil, Caine, Sanjit, Brianna, Dekka, Brittney, and more.

The Gone series reminds me a lot of a Stephen King type series for young adults and never more so than with this book which reminds me a lot of King's Under the Dome: A Novel. It is interesting to see what two authors do with a similar concept. There is a lot of good versus evil in both books and lots of destruction. Without giving anything away I do think Grant came up with a better explanation of what caused the FAYZ then King did with his dome. Grant gives readers just enough glimpses of life beyond the FAYZ to make readers wonder who among the children is doing the right thing - it will be interesting to see how Grant deals with the ramifications of the actions of all those living in the FAYZ - both the "good guys" and the "bad guys".

"Lies" is another excellent entry in Michael Grant's thrilling "Gone" series.

Since their mother’s death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane.

One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives.

Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them--Set--has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe--a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family, and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.

±1±: Best Buy My poor husband contends I can't shut up about this book so I must have liked it. Two weeks have gone by and I am still thinking about it, I must have loved it. The book was pure fun and adventure - really what more do you want?

While some readers may feel like this is just Percy with true siblings and Egyptian gods instead of half siblings and Greek gods, for me, the book stood solidly on its own. I liked Percy and the Olympians series because of its fast pace, witty writing, and ability to give old myths new (and often crazy) life. However, I don't know if I genuinely cared all that much for the characters - more like fun diversions or pleasant habits than people I couldn't imagine losing. My feelings about Sadie and Carter are completely the opposite. Riordan did a remarkable job fleshing out the siblings and their relationship. I found myself constantly comparing the nature of their relationship and dialog to another popular book with siblings (The Alchemist series) and Riordan's portrayal is so much more realistic. I also know less about Egyptian mythology and in many ways that made the Red Pyramid more enjoyable - I wasn't constantly fact checking or comparing the book to what I thought I knew.

I do know I will be pre-ordering number 2!

Parents Note: I read out loud to my young boys every night and I would probably hesitate to read this to them until they are in the 9-10 age range. This is not because of inappropriate content (although a few of the scenes/characters are a bit frightening), but more because the character/terminology list is pretty long and some of the mythology is a bit more complicated than with the Percy series. on Sale!
